Are you in pain after every sexual intercourse

For women and men who have never had sex before it is normal to feel painful in the early days of their intimacy experience.  However, if there is pain after each and every sexual intercourse and that goes on for long, it might be due to other health related problems.

Women feel pain after sex due to following reasons-

  • Infected with sexually transmitted infections (Chlamydia, gonorrhea and genital herpes)
  • Menopause
  • Endometriosis
  • Vaginismus
  • Allergic to men’s semen and rubber condom, allergic to other products used during sex
  • Lack of lubrication as the result of not fully aroused.

In men-

  • Infected with sexually transmitted infections like syphilis,
  • Penile yeast infection
  • Prostatitis
  • Stress
  • Allergic reaction to material or chemicals in condoms can be causes behind pain after sex.

What to do if you feel painful after sex?

For women, if the reason is due to lack of lubrication ask your partner to use water based condoms. Moreover, if you are allergic to condom and other sex related products, ask your partner to change it to another brand.

Sometimes it might be due to low sexual arousal. Hence, if you have low libido, consult with Reproductive Health Consultant (or) Reproductive Health Specialist.

When to see a doctor?

When there is unusual symptom on your reproductive organ, bleeding from reproductive organ after sex and intense pain, go to nearby hospital or clinic as soon as possible.
